Chiropractic Care for Posture: Retraining Your Spine's Memory
Have you ever noticed how your posture tends to slump after a long day? Or perhaps you've been struggling with back pain and discomfort? Chiropractic care could be the answer to retraining your spine and improving your posture. But how does it work, and why is it considered so beneficial?
The Benefits of Contrast Therapy for Pain Relief and Recovery
Contrast therapy involves alternating between hot and cold. It has a number of benefits for pain relief and recovery, including reducing inflammation, improving range of motion, and speeding up the recovery process.
What is Contrast Therapy?
Contrast therapy is a type of physical therapy that uses alternating hot and cold treatments to improve circulation and reduce inflammation. It is a safe and effective way to treat a variety of conditions, including muscle pain, joint pain, and edema.
What is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a healthcare profession that focuses on the spine and its relationship to overall health. Vitalistic chiropractic is a specific type of chiropractic that emphasizes the importance of the body's natural healing ability.
Child Development Milestones
It’s important to remember every child is different and will develop at different speeds. Chiropractic focuses on the relationship between the spine and the nervous system. This is especially important for children as their nerve systems develop. What we now understand with regards to brain development is that the first few years of life are paramount for optimal nerve system growth.
The Effects Of A Hip Misalignment
Your pelvis is the foundation of your spine that helps to stabilize your back and surrounding structures. If your pelvis is out of alignment, or if you have bad posture, this could cause many issues for the spine’s alignment and long-term health. Many times, patients that see a chiropractor here at WYLD for lower back pain are usually experiencing symptoms of a pelvic tilt or misalignment of the pelvis. Once the “foundation” is tilted or rotated, it will cause an unstable balance in the spine, causing discs to shift and compress usually causing back pain.
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a problem with hormones that happens during the reproductive years. It can cause irregular/missed periods and also too much of a hormone called androgen in your body. Small sacs of fluid develop along the outer edge of the ovary, these are called cysts, the small fluid-filled cysts contain immature eggs. These are called follicles. The follicles fail to regularly release eggs.
Chronic Pain Syndrome
Chronic pain syndrome is when pain that lasts for three months or more does not go away as expected after an injury or illness. The presentation of chronic pain syndrome varies between individuals. In fact 1 of 6 New Zealanders suffer from chronic pain syndrome. This pain can vary between mild to severe and intermittent to constant. This pain is very difficult to treat and medications alone may not solve the problem. This pain can become debilitating and it can impact one's emotional and physical wellbeing.
Sciatica
Sciatica is a term that generally refers to nerve pain in your leg caused by a problem in your lower back. The medical term for sciatica is ‘radicular leg pain’ because of the way the pain radiates from your back and hip into your legs through the spine.
Upper Crossed Syndrome
The “crossed” in upper crossed syndrome refers to the crossing pattern of the overactive muscles with the countercrossing of the underactive muscles. When viewed from the side, an X pattern can be drawn for these two sets of muscles. The tight muscles are the suboccipitals, upper trapezius and levator muscles, whereas the weak muscles are the cervical flexors, rhomboids and lower traps.
Torticollis
Torticollis is a condition where the neck muscles go into spasm pulling and turning your head to one side. The exact cause of torticollis is unknown but the most common causes for it are: Sleeping in an awkward position, Neck muscle injury at birth, Traumatic injuries, Viral or bacterial infections, Herniated discs in the cervical spine.
Raynaud’s Phenomenon
Raynaud’s phenomenon is a process in which the fingers turn white, blue or red in response to certain triggers such as the cold or stress. It can be associated with discomfort or a pins and needles sensation. This happens because the blood vessels in the hands and fingers spasm causing decreased blood flow to the fingers. These attacks usually occur intermittently and tend to resolve on their own. Raynaud's disease is not debilitating but it can affect quality of life.
The S Word And Ways To Help Manage It
We all know what it feels like to be under stress but when it becomes our default state on a daily basis it can be overwhelming and simply exhausting. Here at WYLD we aim to help you step out of a chronic state of stress, and step into a more dynamic and resilient state where you can better adapt to stress. Beyond chiropractic care, there are many tools to help support yourself, below are some of the tools we often discuss in practice.
How To Help Yourself Self-Manage Low Back Pain
As Chiropractors we are well equipped to provide you with help with your low back pain. As chiropractors we first perform a thorough assessment to determine the cause of your low back pain, and often chiropractic adjustments are suitable to provide relief and healing of the pain/and or injury. However, as healthcare providers we will often recommend home care advice to support you to get the best results possible, alongside chiropractic care.
Infants And Chiropractic
Misalignments in Infants come from stressors which can compromise the spine and therefore affect nervous system functioning. Such stressors can include intrauterine constraints during pregnancy and the birthing process. A “safe” and “fast” delivery can still put a lot of stress on the newborn's spine resulting in nerve dysfunction.

Food For Stress & Anxiety
A healthy brain requires many micronutrients to function well and to protect the neurons from wear and tear. When we think about the stress that our brains come under in our daily lives (thinking about the to do list, worrying over a deadline, stressing about the big presentation next week) it’s no wonder that we often find ourselves struggling to cope!
Research has shown that the foods we eat can have a significant impact on the health of our brains…and that means, we can actually choose to eat foods that help us to manage stress and anxiety.
Snapping Hip Syndrome
A snapping hip is a condition in which you hear a clicking sound from your hip from any activity that involves the hip joint such as walking or getting up from a chair. The snapping sound is heard because the muscles/tendons that surround the hip joint become taught and move over a bony protrusion in the hip.
Chiropractic and Disc Herniations
A disc herniation is when there is a problem with one of the rubbery cushions (discs) that sit between the bones that stack up to form your spine. The disc is made up of a nucleus which is found in the center of the disc and contains a soft jelly-like substance. Surrounding the nucleus is a tough exterior called the annulus that supports the contents of the nucleus.
What Is The Diaphragm And Why Should You Care?
The diaphragm is essential to breathing, being a muscle of respiration. It sits under your lungs, attaching to the spine, rib cage and sternum (bone in the middle of your chest). It is controlled by the phrenic nerve, a nerve that originates in your neck. It separates the thorax (chest) from the abdomen (belly).
Chiropractic And Pregnancy
Chiropractic care is a safe and effective modality for pregnant women. Chiropractors focus on strengthening the nervous system to assist in a better quality of life for mums-to-be and help in the growth and development of your baby.
The nervous system is made up of the brain, spinal cord and nerves. The nerves facilitate the functioning of every single cell, organ and muscle in your body which includes the development of your baby.
